FREEMAN CEMETERY
WEAKLEY COUNTY, TENNESSEE
CRUTCHFIELD FAMILY
Descendants of Isaiah and Amanda Ellis Crutchfield
Three of the seven children of Isaiah Crutchfield and his first wife, Amanda Ellis Crutchfield, are buried in Freeman Cemetery:
MONROE CRUTCHFIELD (1851-1923)
MARTHA LOUISE CRUTCHFIELD TREVATHAN (1863-1915)
VIRGINIA LEE (JENNIE) CRUTCHFIELD BROOKS (1866-1906)
Although Isaiah was buried with his first wife in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Sharon, Tennessee, Isaiah's second wife is buried in Freeman Cemetery. ELIZABETH E. HARPER FREEMAN CRUTCHFIELD (1825-1908) lost her first husband, Willis A. Freeman, in 1862, and after Isaiah was widowed in 1883, they ended up marrying. Two of their children from their previous marriages (Mary M. Freeman and Monroe Crutchfield) were already married (in 1872). This is one interesting example of how close families were in the small community and how marriages intertwined the families even further.
Descendants of Martha Louise and Virginia (Jennie) will be discussed on the Trevathan and Brooks pages, we will explore Monroe's family a bit further here.
As mentioned above, Monroe Crutchfield married into the Freeman family, further interweaving the family lines. He and his wife, MARY M. FREEMAN CRUTCHFIELD (1854-1885), had two children, both of whom are also buried in Freeman Cemetery:
LOISE CRUTCHFIELD GARDNER (1873-1894)
LUTHER T. CRUTCHFIELD (1877-1908)
Loise and her husband, Willie Burton Gardner, had one child, Marjorie E. (Margie) Gardner Peery, but, unfortunately, Loise died at the young age of 20. Willie Gardner remarried and is buried alongside his second wife in the Public Well Cemetery just a few miles away.
Luther died at the young age of 31 without leaving any heirs.
Both Loise and Luther are buried in Freeman Cemetery.
Monroe Crutchfield's second wife, MARTHA J. PLEASANT CRUTCHFIELD (1853-1925) is also buried in Freeman Cemetery.
