MAHON FAMILY

Note that sometimes the name Mahon appears as Mahan. According to family tradition, it was Raleigh who changed the name Mahan to Mahon.

The first name of BERTHA PAIRLEE (PAT) MEEK MAHON (1855-1943), which she never used, is variously given as Bephire, Bethar, and Bertha. She went by Pat and married JAMES MONROE HOLT (JIM) MAHON (1859-1919). They are both buried in Freeman Cemetery, along with two of their four children and four of their grandchildren.

Pat and Jim Mahon purchased additional acres adjacent to land she had inherited from her father, James Allen Meek in the area near Freeman Cemetery. Jim and Pat were successful farmers, leaders in the community, and charter members of Bethany Methodist Church. Jim and Pat had four children:

Evie Lee Mahon Miles (1881-1961) married Benjamin Frank Miles (1876-1963). Evie and Frank had two children, Mahon Meek Miles and Trellys Miles Taylor. Evie, Frank, and Mahon are all buried at East Side Cemetery in Martin.

Mahon Meek Miles (1909-1925) died of pneumonia at the age of 15. 

Trellys Miles Taylor (1913-1993) married Robert George (R. G.) Taylor (1906-1990). They are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Sharon, Tennessee. They had no children.

VESSIE LaCONNIE (CONNIE) MAHON WRIGHT (1884-1951) married LEE ROY WRIGHT (1879-1958), and they remained in the community and are buried in Freeman Cemetery. Connie and Lee Roy had eight children:

Homer Dillard Wright married Allie Mae Miles (1900-1956) and, after her death, Freida Haws (dates unknown). He had no children.

Coy Wayne Wright married Esther Odall Collier (1905-1973). They are buried in Collier Cemetery in Weakley County. They had one child, Joseph Wayne Wright (1924-1990). He married Aileen Smith (1926-2016). They are buried in East Side Cemetery. They had no children.

OLLIE and RALEIGH WRIGHT were twins who died at birth in 1905. They were named, though their shared tombstone says, "Infant Son & Dau. of L. R. & Connie Wright."

JAMES MALCOLM WRIGHT married Willie Mae Shackleford Wright (dates and burial place unknown). They had one child, James Holt (Jimmy) Wright. Jimmy married Juanita May Thomas Wright (1935-2011), and they and their oldest child are buried in Payne Cemetery in Gratiot County, Michigan. They had six children: Roger Allen Wright (1966-2009), Tina Wright, Tracy Wright, Terry Wright, Tom Wright, and Jim Wright.

Mary Elizabeth Wright Isbell (1909-1973) married Robert Edward Isbell, Jr. (1909-1979), and they had two children. The oldest, Robbie Jean Isbell Yates (1928-2017), married Bob Yates (dates unknown), and they had one child, Bobby Yates, Jr. Bobby Yates, Jr., married Diane Stephenson Yates, and they have two children, Tiffany and Darren. Mary and Robert's younger daughter was Dorothy Dean Isbell Walker (1929-2003), and she married Fred Walker (dates unknown). They had one child, Robert Michael (Mike) Walker, who married Rose Mary (Romy) Pettersen. They have no children. Mary Elizabeth Wright and her daughter Dorothy Wright Isbell are buried in East Side Cemetery.

Virginia Paralee Wright Stoker (1914-1994) married Wayne Douglas Stoker (1915-2010), and they are buried at East Side Cemetery. They had one daughter, Jenna Lee Stoker Wright. Jenna married Earl Wright, and they had two children. Their daughter, Lee Amanda (Mandy) Wright (1977-1977), is buried at East Side Cemetery. Their son is Earl Isaac (Zac) Wright.

Frances Wright Kimmel (1914-2009) married Lloyd Landis Kimmel (1902-1971). They lived in Virginia and had four children: Thomas Landis (Tommy) Kimmel, William Lee Kimmel (1952-1999), Connie Louisa Kimmel Jett, and Ruth Frances Kimmel Wilkins.

Raleigh Wayne Mahon (1888-1949) married Carroll MacAfee Mahon (1892-1963). Raleigh was a banker in Troy, Tennessee, and he and Carroll are buried in Terrace Hill Cemetery in Troy. They had no children.

HAZEL TRELLYS MAHON ELLIOTT (1892-1966) married LEWIS EDMON ELLIOTT, Sr. (1889-1971). They farmed in the community and were active members of Bethany Methodist Church, where Hazel was the pianist and Lewis was the song leader for many years. They had one son, LEWIS EDMON ELLIOTT, Jr. (1921-1971). He married Mary Catheryne Springer (unknown dates and burial), but they had no children. Hazel, Lewis Sr., and Lewis Jr. are all buried in Freeman Cemetery.
